Fall Sweet Fall

Have you noticed the days are getting shorter? It's always the first sign of fall coming. Even before the weather cools and the leaves change, gradually the sunsets come a little bit earlier each evening and we find ourselves spending more time inside.

Perhaps it's this extra time indoors that makes us want to decorate more for fall. More time to enjoy our surroundings, enjoy each other, and embrace everything cozy! Whether you begin decorating for fall when the kids head back to school, the first of September, after Labor Day, or later in September, it never hurts to plan ahead and begin thinking about how you will style your space this year.

When it comes to decorating for each season, it seems there is some magical balance between just enough decor and looking like you walked straight into the pumpkin patch. Today we want to share 3 of our favorite tips for embracing the season and making your home feel extra cozy without going completely overboard.

1. Enjoy your seasonal treasures, but don't be afraid to donate the items you no longer love. I catch myself putting things out because, "It's always gone right here." Only to realize, I may not even like that turkey anymore. (For more inspiration on cleaning out for fall, be sure to read our blog from earlier this month on Fall Cleaning.)

2.Use smaller items in groupings to avoid clutter. This is the perfect time for an unconventional candlestick topper! Add a pumpkin or little turkey to the top of your candlesticks in place of a traditional candle. Or, check out our tutorial from last week and incorporate some of those smaller accessories onto a styled tray. You can always nestle items into bookshelves, but try to avoid going overboard.

3. Remember that your outdoor spaces are a perfect canvas for seasonal decor, too. Mix together an arrangement of small pumpkins with citronella candles on your patio table. Hang a show-stopping wreath on your front door, and don't forget the potted mum & fresh pumpkins for your porch.

With fall decor, I try to keep 1 word in mind -- cozy. With the rich colors, heavier throws and delicious fall candles, it's easy to transition right into the season. As the days get shorter (and eventually cooler) we hope these tips will inspire you to create beautiful, fall stories in your decor this year.

Until Next Time-
