Summer Reads

Something I look forward to every summer is spending time in a cozy spot, reading a good book. It sounds silly to say, but with all my tv shows over for the summer, I like to go to the library for some good reads.

Although I'm neither a teacher nor a librarian, I feel we've lost our love for reading books. We're busy on our screens, myself included, and we're missing out on the world around with conversations to be had and books to be read. Likewise we are passing these habits down to our children, teaching them that it's more fun to play on an iPhone than turn pages of a book.

One of my favorite summer memories is when my little boys and I would go to the library, get lots of books, and then spend hot afternoons reading inside. They would read on their own or I would read to them, inevitably falling asleep snuggled underneath the ceiling fan in their room. (Sidenote: I don't like super hot weather, so this is an especially good memory to me!)

Since our store's location moved to Nashville last fall, I have about 45 minutes to an hour drive home. My greatest discovery has been audio books! Now I don't have to wait until the summer to read. What used to be a dreadful ride is now fun-- so far I have "read" 20 books! Even though the traffic is bad, my time in the car is now filled with learning and listening to books.

Do you enjoy reading? What's your favorite genre? Who's your favorite author? Do you have a summer reading list you'd like to share with us? We will post in our comments some of our favorite books and hope you will do the same!

Til next time, Happy reading!

Joy!
