Present over Perfect

When it comes to holiday meals and entertaining, are you a Mary or a Martha? It can be a struggle for me to balance food preparation, entertaining, and being present. We all want holidays to be a time of cherished memories, but sometimes the rush just leads to great annoyances. This year I am seeking that often elusive balance between creating a special day for my family and being able to truly enjoy the day myself.

As Thanksgiving approaches this week, these are a few things that I want to accomplish:

  • Prepare as much as I can day the before
  • Delegate chores that I'm willing to relinquish
  • Don't sweat the small stuff
  • Ask everyone to be present--put away cell phones
  • Laugh a lot
  • Enjoy being with loved ones
  • Lower my expectations
  • Take it easy on myself

I think we put way too much pressure on ourselves to have the most beautiful and perfect presentation. When perfection doesn't happen, we become either disappointed or mad. Truth be told, the only one who really cares about it is ourselves.

So take it easy on yourself and realize you can only do your best. Choose to be present over perfect. And if you want to have the perfect table, let Rachel design it for you! That's the easiest option!

Happy Thanksgiving~

Joy!
